MUSIC AND STORYTELLING FOR HEALTHY AGING

Exciting News!

We have recently received funding from the Government of Canada’s New Horizon’s for Seniors Program to codesign and launch a new program that supports healthy aging through music and mentorship with our partners at Cedarwood Village and Christie Gardens. This funding provides for projects that make a difference in the lives of seniors and their communities.

Promoting Healthy Aging

We're excited to work with seniors to create a new music and storytelling program. This program will help promote healthy aging by exploring how music benefits health, wellness, and mental well-being. We'll also focus on creativity, emotions, and building social connections.

Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion

Our program celebrates diversity and promotes inclusion. It's designed to be age-friendly, encouraging seniors to participate and engage. We also aim to connect seniors with students from local high schools for intergenerational sharing and activities.

Learn about the program's benefits below.

  • Engaging in music activities helps reduce isolation and loneliness, and can lessen symptoms of depression and anxiety. Our program provides seniors with tools and strategies to care for their mental well-being.

  • Through music and storytelling, seniors can express themselves creatively. This helps boost self-esteem and confidence, fostering a positive self-image.

  • Active participation in our program helps seniors make new friends and connect with peers and youth. This creates a strong sense of belonging.

  • Our new program will help strengthen the community by bringing together different generations and promoting understanding. It provides a space for sharing stories that celebrate diversity, fostering inclusivity and understanding among various cultural and demographic groups.

  • Our program brings evidence-based therapeutic practices, including music therapy, to seniors in both urban and rural communities. This gives them access to valuable resources that can improve their well-being.

  • When seniors and youth participate in meaningful activities together, it boosts the overall well-being of the community. This creates a positive, vibrant, and supportive environment where people of all ages can thrive.
